too much to bear

August 7, 2008

my nephew is 16 months old. He managed to burn both his hands on glass surrounding a fireplace. It’s pretty bad. Every day he has had to go in to the ER, or the doctor’s office, now the burn unit. It seems like each time he goes in, the news is even worse. At first they said 2nd degree burns. now it looks like one part of his right hand has a 3rd degree burn and will need a skin graft next week.

He’s such a trooper. He cries, alot, when they have to mess with his hands, redress them and what not, but the rest of the time, he’s smiling and trying to play. He sticks pretty close to his mom, and he gets very frustrated about not being able to use his hands. It seems like such a nightmare.

But it’s mom and dad i worry about more. They are having such a hard time. It’s so sad, so heartbreaking, so horrifying, really. But I just really hope they can remember that what’s happening now is in his best interest. It’s all forward progression now, and even though it sucks, big time, it  just is.

It’s hard for everyone. me too. i can’t handle the thought of him hurting this way and i can’t handle the thought of my sister hurting this way, either.

It just seems like it’s too much to bear.

the day we did every errand in the book

August 3, 2008

No, serioulsy, we did. We even made a list so we wouldn’t forget any of them. We kind of got a late start, I think about 11am. First we stopped at the local gas station for drinks and snacks. Then we headed to National Camera Exchange to drop off film. The hubby has been shooting with film lately. Also, he picked up a book on photo shop. While he was in there, I was across the street in Trader Joe’s. Now, I don’t do much grocery shopping in there, but I do love their Crispy Snap Peas! If you haven’t tried them, you need to. Yum!

Then we headed over to Best Buy to pick up a memory card that was on sale. Our memory card bit the dust while on vacation in Chicago last week. Thankfully, hubby was able to retrieve the pictures from the corrupted card.

Next, a stop at the local Value Village to find some items for a wedding next weekend. I needed shoes which I didn’t think I would find there but did! Really cute, comfy ones, too. I was also hoping to find a shirt/blouse to wear with a skirt I have, but there was nothing. My 11 year old son also needed khaki’s but didn’t find that either. My 8 year old son came away with a shirt for 50 cents, though! and my little 5 year old Diva came away with a pink outfit that makes her so happy. So not too bad.

Then, to Blockbuster to return a couple of movies and pick up a new one. 21. Anyone seen it yet?

From there, to Pearle Vision to pick out new glasses for me! Very exciting! I will be able to pick them up tomorrow! Can’t wait!

Then a quick trip through McDonald’s drive through, since the kids were crying from hunger!

A quick run into the library to pick up 3 books on hold! Love that option!

Next stop, Kohl’s to find the needed shirt/blouse for this wedding. I did pick up 4 shirts, very cute! I really love all of them, although, not sure any of them go with the skirt I had in mind!

From there, to Aldi’s, where I managed to buy $120 worth of groceries for $60. What a deal! It’s a chore to shop there, but the value is unbeatable!

Course, now we had to head home because of the groceries that needed to be put away. So we got home, took a few minutes to rest up and then headed back out.

We stopped at the YMCA to join up and register the kids for swimming lessons. They are very excited. Especially my 11 year old because he gets to work out upstairs with us.

From there, to Buffalo Wild Wings for more nourishment and a few rounds of trivia.

Then on to Walmart. Found the needed Khaki’s for my son, plus a pink polo shirt he wants to wear with them. He also got a pair of work out shorts and pants for his new YMCA membership.  The 8 year old picked out shoes, the hubby got some new shirts for work and the Diva left crying because she didn’t get anything!

Once at the car, we realized that we forgot locks, for the lockers at the Y, one of the most important reasons for stopping at Walmart, so we headed across the street to Target because I also needed frozen waffles.

What a busy day and what a productive day!! it was tiring, but felt good to get so much done!
